Catching rotation continues

Jim Leyland said after Tuesday’s game that he planned on catching Inge Wednesday regardless of what Pudge did behind the plate, and he stuck to that. Inge is back behind the plate tonight for Justin Verlander, while Rodriguez gets another day to rest up. With a day game coming up Thursday, it might’ve made sense even if they weren’t rotating every other game, though Rodriguez is 10-for-26 lifetime against Javier Vazquez.

TIGERS (27-37)

  1. Granderson, CF
  2. Polanco, 2B (15-for-43 lifetime vs. Vazquez)
  3. Guillen, 3B
  4. Ordonez, RF
  5. Cabrera, 1B
  6. Larish, DH
  7. Renteria, SS
  8. Thames, LF (0-for-8 career vs. Vazquez)
  9. Inge, C

WHITE SOX (37-27)

  1. Orlando Cabrera, SS
  2. A.J. Pierzynski, C
  3. Carlos Quentin, LF
  4. Jim Thome, DH
  5. Jermaine Dye, RF
  6. Joe Crede, 3B
  7. Nick Swisher, 1B
  8. Alexei Ramirez, 2B
  9. Brian Anderson, CF

The Tigers bullpen should be at just about full strength tonight. Aquilino Lopez has returned from the Dominican, and he’s available. So is Freddy Dolsi, though that might only be in an emergency.

Jl is trying but I don’t like the lineup much today. I think it is imperative to get Verlander a Win. I think he should have his best defense out there to edge things in that direction.
Inge at 3B, Pudge behind the plate and Carlos DH.
Verlander is a wee bit arrogant (which is a good thing, to a point, for a MLB starter), but he is gonna push Inge around out there tonight. He is gonna get into his own accelerated pace and throw his own pitch selection and Inge won’t be able to to a damn thing about it. Pudge at least can bend the ear of Verlander if he needs to.
Regardless, if Verlander is on (and as I recall he has not had a great deal of success against the ChiSox), he can dominat a game.
He needs to convert a few more 2 strike pitches to strike-outs though. IMO he has to average around 7 or 8 Ks/ 9 IP to be his most effective (sic).
Granderson has to get untracked. The triples (and doubles too) have dried up. He is so critical to this offense.
Best of luck to Dontrelle and a special thanks for the way he has handled all this and kept it form being a nail in the coffin for his team. he’s a character guy, no question about that.

The boys (especially the LHB) are gonna have to lay off that high strike and add a few more runs. Granderson continues to get rather poor swings.

Hey Dan, how about that 14 pich walk by Cab.I think he made the whole inning possible by getting into the pitchers head.Great swing by Marcus

This can all change in a swing of the bat so I hope these guys don’t go ComaZone. The White Sox are taking some big swings and sooner or later one of those popups is goona afind the fence.

Ordonez is due for an important RBI

He came throught but where were our fans on MCab’s foul pop?!!

Nice to have a lead but Vasquez is dominating us and making the hitters look pretty bad.
This is a very good ball club and they will exploit any opportunity that is given them. 4 runs will not likely be enough to walk away with this one.
Boy, I am really starting to get concerned about Granderson.
Hollimon will probably get a start at SS pretty soon.

If we can get a guy on here we should try and run on AJ. I doubt he ‘ll be able to make a very good throw after taking that ball on the elbow.

Got a big run but that might have been a real interesting inning if Leyland had run Granderson.
I’d let Marcus get another swing but I would think we will see Clevlen in LF tonight as a defensive replacement.

Guillen at DH is not a possibility. The way JL is managing the DH slot, and now that Sheff is a little better ?? .. Thats always going to be reserved for him.
The way i see it, if Guillen is moved to DH and other pieces work out, Sheff would lose his spot. JL has probably promised Sheff that he won’t lose his place at DH, so consciously or not, JL is making sure the DH spot is not a productive one.

Good call on that Clevlan defesive switch Nice catch out there.Guess with Brandon and Pudge platoon,it wouldnt make sense to moveGG.(if even that makes sense?)Condolences to Aqualino,I just heard about his dads passing away.Hope they let Justin go through at least the 8th.Got a low pitch count

Nice victory for sure. Gotta love beating a team that has whupped you since you’ve been in the bigs. Nice fast game, the way baseball should be played.
Granderson did come around and Polanco got robbed twice–he could have had 4 hits again tonight.
Guillen is playing well at 3B now, and I thik the comment about keeping the DH for Sheffield is probably correct. Larrish is not going to help right now and I think they should send him back down for more seasoning. A LHB DH who is not hitting much of anything is throwing away outs. I give them credit for trying him out but it is clear this is not his time.
Now, these guys have to find the killer instinct for tomorrow’s game. I’d like to see them play Inge at 3B tomorrow against the LHP and DH Carlos. Gives Carlos a break, keeps his bat in the lineup and improves the infield.
Clevlen has been great but Thames deserves another game in LF. JL might just sit Granderson and play clevlen in CF.
I think JL sits Hollimon until they go to a NL ballpark. I don’t think he should start a divisional game.
Verlander had an exquisite game but I sure miss that 98 MPH fastball on the outside corner!
Good luck tomorow guys, I’m gonna miss the game so I hope I am pleasantly surprised when I see the box score.

I guess Zumaya was unimpressive today. They had to pull him after a couple of walks and I think he also threw a possible DP ball away for an error. 1 inning, 2 runs, 2 BBs and 1 K.
Toledo needs Larrish back! They have stopped hitting the long ball now.

Outstanding JV. No walks, one earned run—that’s what I’m talking about!!! Pitch to contact–don’t worry, the strikeouts will come. That’s the kind of start you expect out of the guy who is supposed to be your ace. Gotta be a real confidence booster. Go get them tomorrow, Kenny!!! Go Tigers!!!

It certainly was Ed. Not to take anything away from that. And no HBP either!!!
