Zumaya tonight

The good news, according to associate reporter Scott McNeish: Zumaya hit 100 mph on the Fifth Third Field radar gun — twice. The bad news: After retiring the side on a hit and a walk in his opening inning, he didn’t retire a batter in his second inning.

Catching rotation continues

Jim Leyland said after Tuesday’s game that he planned on catching Inge Wednesday regardless of what Pudge did behind the plate, and he stuck to that. Inge is back behind the plate tonight for Justin Verlander, while Rodriguez gets another day to rest up. With a day game coming up Thursday, it might’ve made sense even if they weren’t rotating every other game, though Rodriguez is 10-for-26 lifetime against Javier Vazquez.
