Last time Tigers went scoreless into extras

It was April 11, 2007 at Baltimore. Craig Monroe hit a grand slam in the top of the 12th; Tigers won 4-1.

Brutal AB by Pudge. Smart move by Scosia to walk Polanco. Let’s hope it backfires but Raburn does not look good right now.

This looks sick. Can you believe this stuff?

How many ways can we find to lose?! The home plate umpire is clearly holding both hands in the air right before Hunter takes off for 2nd base. Now either that means time is out or he’s airing out his pits!

The only thing worse than us tonight is them. They should have made us pay for the stupidity.
.
There is something very wrong with this club when you put Miner and Dolsi in for the late innings in a scoreless tie.
.
Dodged another bullet.
.
Guillen better come through–he owes his mates.
.
BTW Raburn is (and has been) struggling enough to get demoted. He is not getting much playing time, we have LF and the infield covered with others and we may as well have a LHB up here.

ONE RUN in the last twenty innings!!!

JL has gotta be tearin’ his hair out. Have these guys forgotten how to hit a baseball?

Well you knew Vlad wasn’t gonna K again?

I do not have confidence in Seay. I don’t think this move is gonna work out.
.
I hope we don’t see a bases loaded walk.

Or anyone hit the ball to 3rd.

Typical how many runners to you have to have on 3rd with one out or less and not get them in. Really bad. On the other hand Kenny was really good and so was Miner. Score 19 runs two nights ago and cant get more than one in the next 21 plus innings. This is some high powered offense. They are just crazy good hitters. They are a joke on most nights. It is either feast or famine with them. I would rather just have a little consistency. Terribly frustrating game for me to watch.

Thats got to be the most embarrassing way to lose. There was not even a threat by the tigers in extras. And Seay couldn’t even throw one strike. A four pitch walk…what the hell. I’d almost rather see him leave one up the middle and watch another grand slam ruin a close game. How the disappointment has not stopped yet is unbelievable…why is it that these guys are getting paid millions?

That was a real kick in the old gonads.
.
They certainly diddn’t deserve to win it but they could have.
.
I know it seems sometimes like we may react to strongly to either a win or a loss here but this one was disturbing. Guillen not coming through, Raburn, Pudge, Renteria Ordonez–none could deliver when they have to.
.
They are shut out once more. It is almost impossible to fathom. Their offense virtually disappears.
.
They need a major winning streak right away or they will not be able to recover from this tailspin they are in. Yeah they swept Seattle but Seattle is not a good ball club and either was the Yankees. Then the proceed to go into the coma zone again. Guillen at 3rd has been a horrible falure and that was one that was clear the moment they made the decision.
.
This is what I meant a month or so ago when I said we needed someone to step up and take charge, a team rallying event or even an injury to change the complexion of the team. The first did not happen, the 2nd did but it didn’t work and the third may be Sheffield.
.
I know some will say he has been hitting lately. Compared to what? He is not getting big hits but he is making some big outs. If he is injured then stubborn JL will be half forced to DH Guillen and play Inge at 3rd. Or call up someone from Toledo. We need a catalyst and I don’t care what shape it come in. The staus quo is no go.
.
Seay has not been dependable lately. Even when he has got ahead of LHB he has given up key hits. I knew he would walk in that run. Yes he got a bad call but he needed to get ahead with strike 1 to even have a prayer at getting out of that mess.
.
The worst thing in that game though was Carlos swinging at a high pitch to strike out with nobody out and men on 1st and 3rd. It obviously cost us a run but it sent the fatal message out to the rest of the “team” that nobody was gonna take charge.

Tonite was our chance to steal one from a club that was probably more jet-lagged than us and we couldn’t do it. I assume we’ll face Santana and Saunders next. I said a month ago that if we didn’t get things ironed out, this road trip would put us in a deep hole. Not lookin’ good. Wouldn’t be surprised to be 10 out when we return home.

I spent the entire game waiting for the Tigers to lose. Why did they make me wait four hours for it? If I had anything else to do, I’d be doing it, but it’s 1:30 AM here in the east.
.
Forget about it guys, this team is toast. We’re going to have to deal with that fact. It’s also a very confusing job of managing by JL too. I’d also like to know where is Lopez? In the doghouse? Why Raburn instead of Thames? Marcus looked unhappy after that happened. The Guillen at third thing is proven to be a horribly failed experiment.
.
While Sheffield gets a much deserved share of blame for offensive failures, what about this Cabrera character? He’s not doing anything. Nothing. That’s your three and five hitter resulting in a big zero. Somehow he’s getting a free pass on all this.
.
It’s too late to get into all this. See you tomorrow.

I agree. Cabrera has hurt the team too. Granted his numbers a re substantially better but he is not a threat at the plate. He is not pulling the ball with power. And he is really starting to rack up the Ks too. We need him to hit 35-40 homers and drive in 125+
.
That’s why they got him.
.
One more thing, Freddy Dolsi pitchng in the 12th inning sounds like desperate science fiction to me. He got some out but ya gotta know he is on borrowed time in that situation.
.
Above all in a game like this you want to have a guy who is not gonna walk somebody or hit them. Seems like Lopez was a logical choice that did not happen—-and it didn’t happen 3 times!!
.
Not Dolsi’s fault, he did well but he should not have been there. Bobby Seay has lost his confidence–written all over his face compared to the determination and intensity that he showed earlier in the season.

SAY GOOD-BYE TO THE SHEFF

ok were 7.5 behind and falling, its time to get real guillen is a great hitter but the only time he belongs at third is after he has touched second. carlos becomes the D.H. and inge returns to 3rd base where he belongs. how many more errors at 3rd can we take.

Tired this morning and still angry. Not a good combination. Said this earlier and will say it again. Tigers have scored 1 run in the last 24 innings. And say all you want we had better opportunities to win this game than the Angels. 3 freaking times we had runners on third twice with only one out and another with 0 outs, and they couldn’t drive the run home. No one, Raburn, Guillen and Joyce, hell all of them killed us all night.
.
Mike we you at the game last night?? I saw a man with a Tigers jersey in the crowd and it looked like there was a little boy next to him in an Angel t-shirt?? What do you look like???

no last nite i was home. i’ll be there tonight. upper deck, not about 1/2 way between home plate and 3rd base. i’ll be sporting my tigers hat. i dont have the time, patience or the money to get decked out head to toe in tiger gear lol.
.
tomorrows game, i’m not sure where i’ll be, as i’m not the one who bought the tickets. i’ll have to wait and see.
.
like i said, i’ll take a loss yesterday, you know, jet lag.. lol! but today and tomorrow, i want to see this offense play as they should. either way, i’ll have a good time. only 3 games out here this year that i’ll go to now only 2. baseball’s a great game. everyone pray that the money whoever spent on my tickets for these 2 games aren’t wasted :) lol!!!

Aww Man!! Two errors by Guillen…. Put Carlos in DH and move Inge over at Third where he plays awesome D!…
I just couldn’t believe staying up that late in the night..what looked like a good game, disapointing to see both teams struggle to bring a man home.. pitching ruled.. then seeing our boys unravel..(they didn’t have to.. they have a bullpen of players to come in to pitch,) and bring Seay in to walk in the winning run on 4 straight wild pitches? OMG!
Poor Verlander and Rogers. They deserve attaboys for pitching thier hearts out, getting thier era down…but no run support. AND from a club of sluggers?
What gives? Are “WE” told not to win untill the Pistons and Redwings have won and now the fans can turn the channel to FSN? I just don’t get it. See a spark of what could be, with a freaky 19 run game.. but average 1-2 runs or less other days.
Does anyone know what we can do with Cabrera, Shef, Willis, and Renteria?

Lately we’ve been getting pitching, especially starting pitching, that is up to the standards set by the 2006 staff. I must admit I didn’t expect that. This makes it all the more troublesome that we still aren’t winning games. The same thing that causes us to lose these close games is the same thing that makes the team appear so dull. The offense is built upon a group of one-trick ponies. JL tried some things last night, but when this team tries to play “small ball,” they look about as comfortable as a dog walking on it’s hind legs. When Guillen reached first with no one out late in the game, the situation cried out for a bunt. The next hitter, however, was Matt Joyce. He can’t bunt. This is the case all too often.
.
Since any knowledgeable baseball person knows that you can’t win games with slugging alone, it’s mind boggling that management has chosen to take this exact course. Changes must be made, if not this year than certainly the next. For now, I’d take the injury to Sheffield as an opportunity to make the switch most Tigers fans have finally come around to wanting. That is, insert Inge at third and move Guillen to DH. Carlos is lost at third, and the only play he makes well is one he used to execute as a shortstop. That play is charging towards first while picking up and throwing. That’s the extent of his defensive contribution. Meanwhile, and I hate to change my view on this yet again, Renteria is too slow at short. Just too slow. We fail to turn doubleplays on a regular basis and this is the cause of it. If we want to win games, we’ll need to put Santiago in there. I won’t be changing my mind on this issue again.
.
What to do with Sheffield and Renteria? You certainly can’t just cut them, that would be stupid. So, I’d think Sheff, if he returns from this latest injury, would be a pinch-hitter for interleague games. Renteria will just have to sit the bench until we can get him traded, which probably wouldn’t be until the end of July.
.
Over the winter, we’ll need to make intelligent deals that address team needs. A prime example of that is what the White Sox did. They acquired Orlando Cabrera from the Angels for Jon Garland. This one deal made their team better. Way better. We need to approach personnel changes in the same vein.

Whoever Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports is, he certainly nailed that one. I guess it’s become that obvious.
