Galarraga to be skipped in rotation

Instead of Galarraga starting Tuesday’s series opener at Kansas City, he won’t pitch again until next Saturday at Arizona. Everyone else will move up a day to take advantage of the off-day. Thus, it’ll be Verlander, Rogers and Bonderman at Kansas City, then Robertson, Galarraga and Verlander at Arizona.

I was looking forward to seeing Galarraga pitch in person Tuesday. The good thing is I will be able to see Bonderman pitch Thursday since I will be there for the entire 3 game series. Hopefully they do what the have the last 8 games I have gone to in Kansas City. They are 8-0 when I am there and I hope that streak stays intact. Now let’s prepare for that by beating up on the Yankees. It has to start with the pitching.

Ahhh, now that makes sense! The best starter they have has been removed from the rotation so the other 4 who have underperformed get more work. I get it.
.
Now management is showing they are as inept as the players.

Let me take that back, a bit. Perhaps Galarraga has an arm problem. That seems to me to be the only logical reason to skip him.

the only thing i’m surprised about this year, is the lack of acne to jason giambe’s face. though, as i’m typing, he just killed one to right. mayube he’s using that zit cream jessica simpson advertises on tv…..
.
dont roids cause acne :)

PS jason giambe shouldn’t be allowed to play baseball

My guess is that they want to keep Galarraga under a certain number of innings for the year and this is a way to do that? It doesn’t make much sense in regard to how he has pitched. Of course, some people will probably say Verlander is struggling because of the number of innings he has pitched the last two years. There is always an excuse. They can’t just say our pitchers have stunk when they have.

my god kenny has such a SICK pickoff move, idk why people even bother stepping off the bag. the best move i’ve ever seen.

We have a few guys here who are really down on Renteria. I think he needs some fan support. He did have a poor season his previous trip in the AL and he is going to have to battle through the stigma of that. He is a good ballplayer. Good glove with diminished range. Can hit OK, but I think he has the type of personality that the fans can either help or hurt. We need him to be at the top of his game. I think he will be a key for the team’s success.
.

We need a 3 run bomb right now (Cabrera up after Magg’s single)

ALRIGHT…finally JL looks like he knows what he’s doing…or maybe it’s just we’re getting the pitches we want.
.
Either way… Ryan Raburn is in the game and hitting and I am happy…I’m a big RR fan, in case you couldn’t tell :)
.
I’m not sure why they would take G out of pitching against an AL Central team and put him in against a NL team? I’m sure there’s some sort of method this this madness, but whatever.
.
In regards to what Dan said…thus far, I have been happy with Renteria’s performance. I think he could do alot better, but he’s not the biggest hyped player on the team, ya know.
.
I hope Sheff isn’t crying tomorrow from his sliding play in left earlier in the game….wahhh i have grass stains on my pants? Idk…not his biggest fan I guess?

This is a very critical inning for us and for Rogers. He has to have a shut down inning..
.
Pudge has done a very commendable job tonight. he seems to be able to get on a roll once he starts off positively.
.
Can’t fault him for the out at 3rd, he got a late start but put on a really nice slide. His fingers are just a tad too short!

Nice inning for the Tigers…Hopefully Kenny will be able to hold through in the 6th and get another QS.
.
I was just reading the comments from Jason’s last entry. I agree…there has to be something else negative going on with the team. It seems like the chemistry just isn’t there…not like other teams. Maybe they are all just down from not winning as much as they expected, but if that’s they case they just need to keep their spirits up.
.
12 hits so far this game…pretty impressive considering how we’ve looked this past week, with the exception of Wednesday.

I like Kenny but I gotta tell you I know I could hit off him. I know when he is throiwng the change and I know when he is throwing the fastball. Every time.

Did anyone else see the clip from yesterday’s Rangers/Mariners game??

Here it is if you’re interested.
.
I couldn’t imagine any of the Tigers doing that…maybe I haven’t seen them in a position to go start a rumble with the pitcher, but geez.

Kenny got away with one that inning. They need to have him on a very short leash if they trot him out there for the 7th.
.
Being the complainer that I am, I think it was not a good move to take Raburn out of the game. If they thought they needed to get Granderson into CF fine—but move Raburn to LF. How often does he get a chance to play. And on top of that he had a real good game tonight. Should have rewarded him. He is far better defensively than Sheffield in LF

AGREED…I was just talking to my friend about that. Why would they take out Ryan…2 at bats…2 hits…what more can you really ask for?
.
I would have definately pulled Gary before Grandy.
.
Well Kenny is at 96 pitches…if he can hold on to through the 7th that would help out our bull pen but let’s hope he doesn’t get into any jam.

Not out of this yet. Kenny is done and they need to take him out.
.
Hawkins helped his team out by just adhering to the age old principle of “just let him hit it”. 2 pitches 2 outs and he kept the Tigers from adding on.

JL is doing the right thing by taking Kenny out. He was finished–no doubt about it.
.
Don’t count these Yankees out yet. We have seen where seemingly insurmountable leads don’t translate into easy victories.

Miner did a nice job that inning. He seems to have the strike zone dialed in so they may as well let him throw the 8th.

I’m not down on Renteria Dan. It’s just that I was looking forward to watching Santiago this year. I just couldn’t understand that trade. Renteria seems like a very quiet, conscientious player who goes about his business. I think he will grow on us if he has one of his typical years. I actually like his approach and personality. So again, I’m not negative towards Edgar, it’s more like I’m always trying to make the pitch for Santiago.

well looks like they listened to you Dan…kept Kenny on a short leash in the 7th and then kept Miner in to start the 8th.
.
I agree with putting Matt Joyce in…might as well give him some playing time

ohhh nooooooooo

Todd Jones…are you kidding me?
.
Another roller coaster 9th inning. It’s unfortunate that we only won that game by 1 run, like Wednesday, when we had them beat by 4 runs.
.
I guess I shouldn’t be complaining since we won, but this is getting ridiculous…It’s a good thing Todd Jones hasn’t been put in more than 6 save situations this season.

We have got to get a new closer for these games. There is no reason that the whole team and the fans should have to get ulcers from watching Jones pitch for only one inning.

Oh Todd, you give me a headache. I love you man, but gee wiz. The thing with Todd he is not real good in nonsave situations. Never has never will.
.
To me the real disappointing thing about the whole thing is that I was real happy thinking we got a good performance out of all of our pitchers and then the guy who has not been a problem all year, nearly blew Kennys game again.
Would of been a shame. Not to mention all of the guys we left stranded on 2nd and 3rd with one or no outs. That still and will always be a the cardinal sin of baseball. Especially with how aggressive they were in the first 4 innings. Then again they kinda stopped hitting. But I will take it anyway I can get it.
.
GO TIGERS, GO WINGS, Go PiSTOns.

One ongoing problem with the club is the stubbroness factor. JL has it stamped in his head that Jones is his closer. Give him the 9th inning and take it to the end.
.
I don’t agree. Miner was on his game. he was pounding the lower part of the strike zone with authority and he had momentum. In fact if JL had left him in to pitch the 9th he would have been eligible for a save. Therin lies the problem. JL thinks that Todd Jones has a monopoly on that stat for his team.
.
We were lucky to escape with a victory and JL need to file this game away in one of his memory cells. You cannot obstinately pursue a course of action for the sake of formula.
.
Todd Jones has good stats this year so far but he is not a top end closer and JL has to understand that he will have horrible outings and be willing to try something else and not worry about his precious formula.
.
Problems are still evident. Granderson. Renteria. Sheffield.
I have faith that the former two will pull out of it but I don’t think Sheffield will.
.
Nice game for Kenny and a fine job by Miner.
.
In Toledo—Hessman hit 2 more (has 14!! now), Larish hit one (his 10th) and Bonine got a complete game victory and is now 7-0 with an ERA under 3.00
.

Hessman has as many HRs as Ordonez, Cabrera and Sheffield combined.
.
Yes it is in the minors.
.
It is still accomplished in a competitive environment with similar distances to the outfield fence.
.
Is there a spot for Hessman (or for that matter, Larish) on the Tigers? Unfortunately no.
.
Realistically Hessman’s days are probably behind him and the best the Tigers could do with him is trade him. The only way he could end up here is if Sheffield goes on the DL.
Larish is blocked hard by Cabrera at 1B, in spite of the Tigers needing a LH power bat. The pity about that is that he is young.
.
We have some decent prospects down there. Another one is Blaine Neal.
.
12 innings. 12 saves. 18 Ks 9 hits 3 walks and a 0.71 ERA

I’m not keeping a tally, but it seems there are an awful lot of complaints on a night when we beat the Yankees for the fourth straight time this season. I expect this when we lose. What are we becoming here, the Muppets hecklers again? :-)
.
I’m sorry that Todd Jones wrecks everyone’s party but the bottom line is a victory. He didn’t have good stuff but yet it’s another win. The good thing about Todd is he doesn’t give up many homeruns, so the opposition needs a lot of hits. I liked walking Matsui, even though it breaks all the “rules.”
.
Re Renteria, Marty said it for me. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve made this point since the trade. I have no problem with Edgar, other than I wish he’d get himself into a little better shape.
.
I thought Sheffield played a good game. What am I missing here? I don’t see any horns. Nice sliding catch. Ripped the ball pretty well. Looked like he was having loads of fun visiting that school earlier today. Professional ballplayer. Works for me, but I guess I’m in a distinct minority.
.
Good all around game tonight. Managed well, aggressive hitting and baserunning approach. Rogers is pitching better than anyone in the rotation right now, and Miner did a great job. He’s been pretty effective since Grilli was traded, as I don’t think Sunday’s game was his fault.
.
Right now, I’m watching the Twins to see if we can finish the night 2.5 games out of first place. It’s amazing just to be able to say that after all that’s gone on.
.
–Rich

And Papelbon blows ANOTHER save and the Twins win. Who woulda thunk it?
.
–Rich

Rich, Looks like the Twins pull it out in the bottom 9th. Paplebon blows another save. I know it’s a Twins win but I still love to see Paplebon blow a save. Actually two in a row.

I’ll have to agree with you on this one. I love to watch Papelbons reaction when he blows a save. He screams and kicks at things and makes a total fool of himself. But hey it gives us fans something to laugh at. Sence it was Lugo that made the error again for Boston, I am sure Papelbon is not thrilled with him..

.
But the Tigers won and that is the important thing. Let’s go for a couple more to make it a great weekend!!!!!

I also love the idea of Papelbon blowing a save, I just wish it wouldn’t have been against someone in our division???
It seems as though when we we everyone does so it has been hard to make up any ground.
.
Rich don’t get me wrong to me at this stage in the game a win is a win, but as much as I love Todd and always defend him. They did get a little lucky with that infield hit, they also ripped a couple of nice ones off of him and I wonder about his effectiveness.
,
Off to work.

Hey Rich, did you see Duncan’s reaction to the ball he hit? I know Jones and some fans went “whew”. Miner was pitching good. Dan, thanks for the update on the Mud Hens. Edgar does look a little pudgey.
Here is my line up.
Renteria
Polanco
Granderson
Ordonez
Guillen
Sheffield
Cabrerra
Raburn
Rodriguez

JL, let’s shake it up and see what works.
Wouldn’t it be nice to see the Tigers score at least 10 runs for Justin?
Go Tigers!
