Tuesday: Tigers vs. Twins

Nothing big developing in the lineup, but Curtis Granderson took three rounds of batting practice and felt good. He feels like he could play with the level of pain he has now in his fractured right finger, but that it’s a matter of getting his timing and his activity level back to game shape. That’s why in addition to hitting, he was running the bases. There’s every indication the Tigers will take their time with him, but it’s at least encouragement.

Without Granderson, here’s the Tigers lineup:

  1. Thomas, CF
  2. Polanco, 2B
  3. Sheffield, DH
  4. Ordonez, RF
  5. Cabrera, 3B
  6. Guillen, 1B
  7. Renteria, SS
  8. Rodriguez, C
  9. Thames, LF

Craig Monroe is at DH for the Twins:

  1. Carlos Gomez, CF
  2. Brendan Harris, 2B
  3. Joe Mauer, C
  4. Justin Morneau, 1B
  5. Delmon Young, LF
  6. Jason Kubel, RF
  7. Craig Monroe, DH
  8. Mike Lamb, 3B
  9. Matt Tolbert, SS

monroe’s DHing, bet he’s gonna try to hit every ball to the moon in retaliation for the tigers gettin’ rid of him.
hope he performs as he did in detroit his last year.
mike, well done, with just a hint of sarcasm.

Well on the surface Nate looks like he is getting a break in that the Twins have FOUR LHB in against him. He does have problems with giving up big hits to LHB when ahead in the count though and we all know he always has one bad inning.
We need a good game today.

With a guy like Robertson, you wanna say, “Give me 5 or 6 6 innings and hold them to 3 or 4.” But who is going to keep it close or hold a lead in innings 7, 8?

IMO, this is the critical flaw with this team, and I wish there was an answer for it. Maybe someone will step up, but please tell me, WHO?

Really nice to see IRod draw a walk after an 0-2 count! If he can be more patient this year he really could have a great year. Remember, some of are were predicting that…

Arghhh, now Nate is down! At least Lopez and Rapada are taking care of business so far.

Another very meaningful victory. Coming from behind, overcoming a bad break with the Mauer/Morneau duo.
Nate was pretty good and the mistake to Morneau is not one that would happen often. Morneau is taking 19 times out of 20 in that situation.
I still am not liking what I am seeing (or not seeing) in Sheffield. Ordonez’ big double and Cabrera’s huge HR camoflauged another ppor AB for Sheff with a man on 3rd an one out. He seemed determined to hnit a popup on that AB. Yes he hit a HR but it happened at a time where he was not being depended upon for a clutch hit. This is where he is not coming through. I hope to be proven wrong but I just don’t think he is living up to expectations.
Todd Jones did it again. You can define “it” any way you want to and the term still applies. I thought he was pretty dense to keep throwing strikes to Monroe. He could have K’d Monroe with something out of the strike zone.
Raburn stole a HR there no question and it was a bad call from the ump. He made a great effort, came down with the ball and should have been credited with a great catch….again.
All in all this has been very encouraging to beat this scrappy ball club 2 in a row.
