Left lat tightness for Robertson

It's basically muscle tightness in his left side.

Woo Hoo another great win! Excellent game once again! Gotta love the adrenaline rush! Go Team!

ok a few random thoughts.
.
first week or so, tigers SP were doing very well, hitting not so much. teams were pounding the relievers 6 – 9. nice to see the tigers returning the favor :)
.
too bad about roberson, hope he’ll be back. not my favorite tiger pitcher, but he’s a pitcher, none the less. did a good job today i thought. (looking at the box didn’t catch the game)
.
these late inning rallies are what the tigers need to be all about. score runs, wear down SP and get into the pens!!! take a page out KC, boSox, ChiSox (twice) playbook.
.
yeppers. 2 in a row, and it only took 14 games to be able to mention such a fantastic feat :) haha GO TIGERS KEEP IT UP IN CLEVELAND!!!!!
.

mike, AKA, mike

oh and BTW, good for (dare i repeat my nickname, as i doomed him, ah tah hell with it) MC HAMMER. nice homer. he’s getting his game back, and he’s getting support from sheff, who i still believe will be hitting around .300 by june, hopefully with about 10 homers by then. the team is feeding off itself now, and that should start to begin to scare the living hell out of other AL teams. yeah, they’re gonna lose a few more, and my 162-0 prediction didn’t come true :) now i’m waiting for a 27 homer game from them :) hahaha!!! yeah but seriously, i like the drama of late inning comebacks. i like what they’re doing, not getting down on themselves, keeping their chin and their bats held high, and WINNING. maybe JL’s little love chat was more demeaning and harsh than reports made it to be. maybe a coincidence, as i dont see a team of proven allstars and up and coming allstars and season veterans really taking a barking at to heart. but hope they did. the tigers fans dont just expect them to win, they need them to win.
.
mike, yep, again.

If they have to disable Robertson, Gallaraga will take his spot.

Gallaraga I don’t think will replace Robertson, because he is already taking the place of Willis.???
.
Now as far as the game tonight, I must admit I went threw the roof (and I forget what inning) but we had runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out and couldn’t get the run home. I have said it before and will say it again, nothing drives me mores nuts. Baseball 101.
.
Seemed to be in the mood for the long ball tonight, nice to see. I will respectfully disagree with Dan (and I mostly always agree with you). I am liking what I see out of Sheff the last few days. I just think the thing with him with that he hits it real hard or not at all. He isn’t the sac fly guy or whatever. But I think Mario and Rod are right ever since he tore that scar tissue, he is definately getting better swings.
.
As far as Raburns catch, or in this case as ruled by the umpire a non-catch. To me it was no as cut and dry. I have definately seen guys given fair catches with less, but to me it was a close call. I think though that definately the ump could of rules our way to. Very close call.
.
I don’t think I could ever be so thrilled to be 4-10. I really hope that this is the start of a little rebound. It would be nice to rip off 5 or 6 or 7 or 150 straight. Just kidding but you get my point.

GO TIGERS, GO GALARRAGA, GO HITTERS
GO WINGS!!

Have to work late tomorrow so I won’t see the game and have to TIVO it. I will have the cell phone to check on the score occassionaly.

YES TWO WINS IN A ROW!!!!!!!

for me, all the shining light i need, is so far, in the L10, the tigers are 4-6. the dodgers, 3-7. ahhhhh…. my (idiot) dodger friends have taken me off their suicide watch, and have put themselves on it. :) looks like ole’ joe torre can’t clean up that mess.
.
ahh enough talk of the minor leagues! GO TIGERS!! TAKE IT TO CLEVELAND!!!
.
(4.5 games out, the beasts of KC dropping a game, ChiSox in first with Det in the gutter chasing Cleveland, need these next two)
.
.
mike. bored. here. there. everywhere.

That 8th inning opposite field double was huge for Maggs. Not only did it tie the game but it was what he was so great at last year. If he starts hitting like he did last year its gonna be a lot of fun to watch this team every night. This has to give them some confidence going into Cleveland.

Yorman Bazardo. I think we’re going to regret losing this one. I know he has been terrible this year – name one Tiger starter who hasn’t sucked this year – but he has a LOT of G-d-given talent, and I’d bet a case of Canadian beer against a case of Vernors that Bazardo will resurface somewhere else, much to our regret.

I also turned off the game after Robertson gave up the home run. My stomach can’t take much more…

John

some of these new guys remind me of the free press ‘bloggers’ all negativity. even when the team is playing hard, pulling out victories from the clutches of the TWINS there’s still a post here, a post there, of negativity.
.
bazardo may do well in the minors, or in the NL… good for him if he does, he wasn’t fitting the mold the tigers required (which is why i’m still amazed of grilli being around…..) and if he does well, more power to him. wish him well. how bout focusing on the positive things the team has shown as of the past two game, confidence building, moral boosting, team spirit, come from behind victories in the late innings, with the ever dramatic todd jones 3-0 in saves.
.
i can name a few starters that haven’t been terrible, verlander, bonderman, robertson, rogers, and yes, even willis. none of which has really had a ‘quality’ start, but they’ve pitched (generally speaking) well enough to keep the tigers in the game. the hitting wasn’t there (case in point-willis had a no hitter going into the 6th first outting, yeah, lots of walks, no runs. one hit, he’s out. bullpen inherits his walks, and boom……..)
.
was it bazardo or grilli in that game that killed us? who knows, who cares. the point is, there’s 148 games of baseball left, and the tigers are improving here and there. not many players still under .100 BA. yeah, low 2′s but many of them were low 1′s last week. maggs is currently .291 and getting back on track. mc hammer is getting on track, learning the new league, lots of sliders, breaks, curves, changes, etc as opposed to the plethora of fastballs in the NL, guillen is hitting, as usual, sheff is really starting to hit, right at people a lot, but better than mr. DP and pop up we’ve seen the past few weeks.
.
i think in a month, most these nay-sayers will be eating their hateful words.
.

Did I miss something? I knew Bazardo was designated for assignment, but did someone claim him? What’s going on there?
.
Looks to me like we may be able to patch together a bullpen out of the parts we have. Lopez is showing a good slider, then there’s Bautista. The games haven’t played out in a manner where we can use the bullpen as we’d like, but that will happen soon. Maybe we’ve got a couple of “finds” here.
.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Rick Porcello makes a start for Detroit sometime this summer.
.
Why did Jim Thome get a one-game suspension for being ejected? He didn’t do anything to merit that. The ump ran him and that should be that. What’s the matter with MLB management these days?
.
On to tonight’s game. That play by Raburn could have been called a catch just as easily. In any case, it was a whale of a play, and I’d like to see him in there more. I think the Clete Thomas story has come to an end at this point. He’s a good young player and will be back, I’m sure, but right now I’d rather have someone else. I suppose they’ll wait for Granderson, though.
.
We got two wins and C-Mo got two hits, so that’s all good. He had a good, tough AB in the ninth, although I was wondering why all the fastballs from Jones throughout the entire inning. More on Monroe: his approach in an earlier AB on 2-0 and 3-1 was a prime example of why he’s no longer here. In a hitter’s count, you swing at your pitch, not swing at any pitch. Well, good luck to him, he’s a good guy.
.
I can allow Sheffield the occasional failure when he does so many other things to help us win. Nobody’s perfect…….except maybe Maggs. :-)
.
On to Cleveland and the struggling “Tribe.” Joe Borowski is on the 15-day DL and Betancourt is now the closer. They may have gotten a better closer now, but they’ve lost their killer setup man, who I think is the reason they won the division last year. So let’s kick ‘em while they’re down.
.
–Rich

All I can say is, I think I’m going to continue to work late, if that’s what it takes for our beloved Tigers to win. Again, came home late only to have ya’ll “tell” me that they pulled out a win! WOO HOO!
.
From what I read, it doesn’t sound like Robertson will be placed on the DL, as it was only a strained muscle. Let’s hope that is all that it really is. What’s the scoop on the guy pitching tomorrow. Forgive my ignorance, but I haven’t heard much about Gallaraga.
.
Also, any thoughts on who to send down/release when Granderson comes back from the DL. Clete has been playing extraordinarily well, especiallly considering his rookie status. I feel he has really taken advantage of his time up in the Bigs and has really contributed to the team thusfar. While I understand this is a business, I just hate to see him sent back down. Think it’s possible they will keep him on the roster and send down/release a reliever?

IMO clete will be sent to toledo. he’ll get some good coaching down there, reduce strikeouts, stop swinging to the river, and put the ball in play. his first few games were just simple swings, mostly over IF heads. perfect. as of late, he’s trying to homer, triple, double, whatever. nah clete just hit the ball. (nice triple the yesterday, probably could’ve made it home if not held up, the kid has speeeeeed!!) i’m more excited for him and his future than i was of maybin. good for him. put him in left next year or whenever JJones contract is up……
.
i also wonder about granderson, as i posted in an earlier blog. will he go to toledo for a few games to get his game back, or will JL throw him into the lineup possibly prematurely…..
.
…shrug…

I must of missed that about Bazardo as well. Hope he didn’t get picked up. And regarding our three somewhat troubling relief pitchers. Miner to me is the one that freaks me out a little more. I am not sure that he has had one good outing. And believe it or not Grilli has.
.
I also think that Clete will be on one to go down not Raburn. Raburn has more a proven track record. I think that they wanted to run Clete out right now. Take advantage of the pitchers not know him and he was providing lots of energy and did a great job. But I think that they wil want him to play everyday and get more “seasoning” as the put it. But I think that for sure he will be back up in September with the call ups if no before then. He has a lot to be proud of in my opinion.
.
Regarding Betencourt, and Sabbathia for that matter. Neither of them are having good years so far. I believe that CC has been hit around and around with an era over 11.00. Betencourt and Perez both have elevated ERA’s as well Betencourt’s is over five. I know this because he is on my fantasy team and has killed me. Not exactly sure what Perez’s is but I know it is a little elevated.
.
GO TIGERS, GO GALARRAGA, GO HITTERS.

Saw an interesting comment in the Detroit News regarding JL’s assessment of things when Granderson gets back. My assumption was that Thomas would naturally go back to either Erie or Toledo but:
“… Inge won’t be the only one to see his playing time diminish when Granderson returns. It stands to reason that Clete Thomas ‘ playing time will be affected, too.

But to the extent that the Tigers would send him back to the minors?

“I would say that if he’d be sitting here with no playing time, doing nothing, just being here, ” said Leyland, “that would go against everything we stand for. He needs to play.

“Now if he could be in a platoon situation, would that be enough? It might be.
.
Not sure if the above was an accurate quote or not (N.B the lack of a quotation mark after the question mark). This could have been a rhetorical question from the News staff or a continuation of JL’s quote.
.
Anyway, if it is a quote from JL who is he considering platooning him with? If it is logically in LF then this must mean they are not settled on Jacque Jones. Given the way Jones has struggled and the fact that he has been replaced defensively in late innings, I would not be surprised if he is released. I do think he should be given a little more time and I don’t think Thomas is quite ready for the bigs just yet. Certainly not as a platoon player.
.
Has someone been sent down to give a spot up for Galarraga?

Quick Question: where do they post the news about who has been released/sent down/etc? They used to put it on the releases section on the front page but I don’t see it anymore. As far as Bazardo is concerned, he is no longer on the active roster or 40 man roster but I don’t know if he was designated for assignment or released. I assume they designated him for assignment hoping he would clear waivers. The fact is: Bazardo has potential but he’s not ready for the show right yet. Perhaps down the road, he’ll be ready and let’s hope it is with the Tigers.

Grill is Grilli. I’ve complained about him as much as others but I can understand keeping him– he’s a long reliever that can eat innings on bad days and can even keep us in the game. My only problem is that Leyland likes putting him in pressure situations. The guy just doesn’t have that kinda makeup. In the late innings of a close game, he’s like a secret weapon for the other team.

As far as Miner is concerned, I think he might be a better starter. He has an array of pitches but doesn’t have an “out pitch.” I’d like to see him sent down if they decide that Cruceta can actually help us out and stretch him out to be a starter. Since he has options left (unlike Grilli and any other reliever) I think he’s a shoo-in to be sent down if/when they activate Cruceta.

Good points Brent. I did see that Beltran was sent down and this makes sense to me. Try http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/team/transactions.jsp?c_id=det for roster transactions. (You can see it is not very accurate though. John Bowker??)
.
I think Bazardo is more suited for a starter role than a reliever too.
.
I would supect we will see Grilli in Cleveland. JL masterfully used the 2 game home stand to his and Grilli’s advantage by holding off using him at Comerica.
.
We’ll see how Miner react to getting sent down. He did not take it well the last time as I recall. And you are right about him starting. He could be used in that role instead of calling up Vasquez or Galarraga in the future.
.
I think it was Rich who said he woudln’t be surprised to see Porcello called up for a cup of coffee. He is on the 40 man roster and I supect the same. I think it would not be a bad idea to give him a taste of MLB life late in the year if they need a start from someone during a scheduling crunch. Back end of a double-header maybe?
.

The Mud Hens lost last night. They also lost the distinction of having the most absurd team name. They were defeated by the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.

Galarraga has replaced Willis on the roster.
.
When Granderson returns, it has to be Thomas going down. Anything else doesn’t make sense. Raburn made the team and only went down to make room for a 13th pitcher. And like everybody says, Clete needs more work. Jacques Jones now, he struggled like this last year before hitting like .335 or something in the second half. I thought he’s made some good plays in left, but sending in Raburn for him defensively does seem rather telling. If they decide to go another direction, I hope they don’t just release Jones. They’ve already given up too many major league level players for nothing in return. And finally, just to throw another stick on the fire, where is Vance Wilson standing in his rehab?
.
I’m going to assume that Bazardo is in the process of clearing waivers. We may have gotten some bad information here. Jason, what’s the official word?
.
I agree that Miner makes a better starter, but I would like to ask, what exactly is an “out pitch”? I see this term but don’t quite get it. What are the out pitches of guys on our staff who have them? I think Grilli would make a better starter. We’ve been seeing him for several years now, and he always has trouble inheriting runners, but is usually better starting an inning, the Chicago debacle aside. Seems like he needs to get warmed to the task, like Bonderman last year. I also think Miner would be replaced, at least as things stand right now. That can change rapidly.
.
I did see Galarraga pitch in Florida, but I saw so many pitchers, I can’t really remember what he has. I know he was effective in his appearances. The big thing this series is putting some licks on Sabathia and Carmona. Let’s get that turned around right now.
.
–Rich

I guess for all intents and purposes, Galarraga has replaced Willis but Raburn was the player they activated when Willis was put on the DL.
.
So they had to send a player down for Galarraga to pitch today and I see that it has been Beltran.
.
I wonder how many options left on Raburn. I think the Tigers are a lucky team to have him in their organization.
.
Now if only Polanco could start hitting! Actually his base on balls yesterday in the 8th was a very critical AB. He was very disciplined.

Not that anyone in the pen with the exception of (Lopez, Bautista and I suppose Rapada). I am really suprised that it was Beltran to go vs. Miner. Miner has just been aweful. People want to talk about Grilli, but in my opinion Miner suprisingly has been much worse so far. Intresting.

You are correct.
.
You know, one thing I’ve learned about on this blog is all this options/waivers/DFA stuff. I’d never paid much attention to that in years past, perhaps because we didn’t have players worth paying attention to. Now we’re all junior general managers. :-)
.
–Rich

“You are correct” was to Dan, up there. I need to remember to address who I’m talking to.
.
–Rich

So the Motor City Kitties come to town (Cleveland). This is a good thing for me, as you know, since all I see here is Cleveland games unless the Tribe is playing Detroit. Besides the two games that were on ESPN the other weekend, this will be my only game(s) I have seen them play so far.

We’ll see how this kid pitches tonight for Detroit, as I don’t know alot about him. And Rich, you are right, we need to jump on Fat Boy Sabby quick tonight.

It is nice to see us get two in a row and some of the guys starting to warm up. Kinda funny how that is happening as the weather is getting warmer huh. Like has been said here numerous times, I think the slow start was a combo of the cold weather, new faces in the clubhouse and the hype of how great this team was gonna be (I do believe they will be).

Anyway, I would REALLY like to see them take these 2 against the Tribe so I can say something back to all these crazy Tribe fans around me that were dogging me at the start. Shoot, I was having my boss come over to me every morning and ask about the Detroit loss the previous night and co-workers putting the Cleveland paper on my chair in the morning before I got into work – articles talking about the Tigers slow start, blah blah…

Well, back to work…sort of……GO TIGERS!

I JUST SAW WHERE THR RED SOX NATION IS VISITING THE YANKEE UNIVERSE—————- I PREFER BELONGING TO THE TIGER WORLD—-A TIGER FAN SINCE 1935 (GO SCHOOLBOY) WIN OR LOSE I BELONG TO TIGER WORLD.

Bridge – You know, awhile back we were trying to figure out a name to call ourselves (us fans)….not a bad suggestion..
