It just gets better and better. Do you think that probably Inge will go to 3rd and Raburn to center???

GK – I was just thinking the same thing.

Clete is CF baby….come on now Motor City Kitties….Go Tigers!

This at least gives us another excuse. I mean c’mon–Zumaya, Rodney, GRANDERSON, and now Cabrera!
Hopefully, we get this albatross of from around our necks early and everyone can stay more or less healthy for the stetch run.
.
Good to see Thames get the start–I thought he would and I will make my second fearless prediction of the season:
Jacque Jones will be playing for somebody else before June.
.
Guess we will see Brandon wearing that little boy grin today eh?
.

Well, what our offense has lost, our defense has gained– I sure hope Cabrera’s injury is short-lived, but I don’t mind seeing Inge back at third for the time being.

Have to agree with your prediction Dan. I just hope JL doesnt wait to long. Every game is crucial, IMO. It will be fun to see Inge’s smile. Maybe that will pick the team up a little. Go Get Em Clete!!

Nice to see Polly get his first hit of the year…but that’s about it…

I’ve been sitting here now for 2 1/2 days. When is this season going to get started?

I really don’t even know what to say right now. This is just pathetic.

Is anyone else as frustrated with this as I am. How many times are they going to leave runners in scoring position with less than one out??? I know it is early in the season, but I am not real happy.

I don’t think it’s greedy to say:

gimme some runs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is deffinately not a good sign for things to come.. By the time the offense gets it figured out, the pitching staff will be frustrated.
Time to play small ball guys. quit aiming for the fence.
nice catch Thames

I live in the KC area and am at work so I can’t watch or listen to the game. Did Sheffield actually try to stretch a single into a double down three runs in the 8th?

I understand trying to get something started, but the people behind him are supposed to do that…

After the wild pitch, should be 4-2 with Guillen at third…

4-2 in the 9th is much better than 4-1…

I’d like to know if Van Slyke sent him or if he went on his own. Nevertheless it was ill-advised as he was lucky to be on at all after the swings he has had today.
.
The guys are pressing and when they hit the ball well it ends up finding a Royals player’s mitt.
.
Kinda’ early for a post mortem but again there were some things that I saw I didn’t like much. One is Bonderman not involving himself as a fielder. In the 2nd Pena attempted to drop one down and Bondo showed absolutely no interest in preparing himself to field it. His “pickoff” move looks like he uses a “windup” to throw to first. It’s really a long arm and leg stride move that I would be stunned if he ever caught a runner off base.
As to the game he pitched, well it wasn’t text book but with his club giving him some offensive support, he could have ended up with a “W”.
.
Pudge looks like the Pudge we saw last year and not the terror he was in Florida. He’s a lot slower getting down the 1st base line when he does hit it, and I expect he will hit in a fair share of DPs this year.
.
Ordonez and Sheffield not hitting are really hurting the offense, especially on top of Polanco’s misfortune thus far.
.

Frankly I am speechless ALMOST. I just cannot believe that they dropped the first three to anyone and no offense but to the Kansas City Royals?????? Like I said earlier it is way too early to jump off a cliff but lets get it together guys. The schedule is really tough in the next few weeks and it would of been nice to get a win or two or three out of this series.

Seemed to me there were some very impatient swings out there especially Magglio and Pudge.

In shock!!!!

Just noticed something else. If the Cubs and Philadelphia pull out their wins today, Detroit is officially the worst team in baseball right now. EEEKKKK.

why cant the tigers beat the royals.

i find myself saying this several times throughout the past couple seasons, and again, this season.

I still don’t know what to say…….

To answer your question, Dan, Sheff said he basically went on his own. He was already past first base when the ball dropped in, so he took off and tried for second. He credited Teahen in left field for a good throw.

I don’t know how many of you know about this web site BASEBALL ALMANAC, but it is a really good source for a lot of baseball info. xxxdeadhead, I didn’t remember our record against Kansas being as dismal as you suggested especially 2006, so I went back and looked

2006 Tigers 14 wins —- Kansas 4 wins
2007 Tigers 11 wins —- Kansas 7 wins

So really in the last few years we have a pretty good record. But what I have noticed in the last few years is that this Tigers hitting has a problem hitting some of this young new pitching. I don’t know if I am remembering incorrectly but it seems to me pitchers like Danks, Flyod, Banister, Greinke and the list goes on.

I hope they decide to try to play tomorrow, although I am am not sure that the weather is going to cooperate. Never in my worst baseball nightmere did I think that the Tigers would lose the first three games. Talk about totally deflating my excitement for the season. Really disappointed right now in this team.

gk- lol, first of all. but in 2006 and 2007, i’ve always been leary of KC. 2006, i take it 3 of those 4 wins were the ‘spoiler’ wins that prevented the tigers (who only needed to win ONE of those 3 games) from winning the AL central pennant…
.

2007, i was just plain leary of KC, and i dunno what baseball almanac has to say about when those 7 wins were, but i’m betting towards the end of the season, in the tigers usual stretch slump.
.
on a side note, i’m not real worried about the tigers, they’ll get their acts together soon enough. i think mr leyland needs to explode on them in a highly publicized ‘private’ locker room debate, you know, the kind that guys in the bleachers can hear….
.

they’ll get going, slow start, terrible to be swept by KANSAS CITY.
.

btw, i’m thinking of taking the 250/1 odds in vegas and picking KC for WS win. i’ll be a millionaire. hahahaha!!
.

ugh. glad the series is over. on to chisox, hopefully our team will decide to wake from their offensive coma… take offensive either way you want.
a pun was intended….
.
btw, jason, when is the mlb blog site goning to fix it so that line breaks are allows?
