Game called

Good night, everybody!

This game is delayed after one inning. Wandy Rodriguez left after two pitches with a strained left oblique muscle. When Nate Robertson went out there, he was basically pitching on top of drying compound.

As Leyland put it, "I do want to see him. Every now and then, you’ve pinch-hit a guy and you’ve got to leave him in a game. I just want to see what he looks like out there. He played there in college. I’ll give the people up there something to talk about, give you guys [the media] something to talk about. They’ll have him as the starting shortstop by next week."

Pudge is leading off again against lefty Wandy Rodriguez, and Leyland said he could end up starting there against lefties once the regular season comes around. Previously, he had been chalking up the starts to getting him his three at-bats without having to catch as much, but we’re past that point in camp now.

Here’s the Tigers lineup:

  1. Rodriguez, C
  2. Inge, SS
  3. Sheffield, DH
  4. Ordonez, RF
  5. Cabrera, 3B
  6. Guillen, 1B
  7. Jones, LF
  8. Granderson, CF
  9. Santiago, 2B

And for the Astros:

  1. Reggie Abercrombie, CF
  2. Hunter Pence, RF
  3. Miguel Tejada, SS
  4. Lance Berkman, DH
  5. Ty Wigginton, 3B
  6. Mark Loretta, 2B
  7. Geoff Blum, 1B
  8. Victor Diaz, LF
  9. Humberto Quintero, C

As you’ll be able to tell from the MLB.TV broadcast, or by checking the Kissimmee, Fla. radar, it’s a rainy night out here. I’m expecting they’ll try to play through it as long as they can, but it could get worse as the evening goes on. We’ll see how it goes.
