Maroth for PTBNL

Deal will be announced officially later today. The Tigers will scout a list of players in the Cardinals system and then have their pick. I believe it’s just one.

Be nice to see that “list”. Anyway we may not see a player named for some time as the rules allow 6 months. This was nother “flexibility” move by DD and defines the confidence the organization has in Andrew Miller.

After watching young Mr. Miller pitch in person last Saturday, I have confidence in him too. I guess we’re assuming that Rogers will be just fine and dandy and suffer no more injuries.

I have the feeling that Maroth wasn’t held in very high regard by the current regime. A guy who marches out there and takes 21 losses for a club, then isn’t included on the WS roster. Any thoughts on that?

I hope it is a very good prospect, because otherwise it doesn’t seem like we got much for an established big league pitcher. I’ve drunk the Kool-Aid, though, so I’m willing to trust…

This trade is another blatant indicator of profound changes in the game over the last 25 to 30 years. The loyalty factor is non existant. While knowing that Maroth did not have exceptional stuff with the ball, he still had a lot of the right stuff as a member of the Tigers. Every team needs a guy like Maroth. I am not turning my back on my beloved team, but in all reality, in five years, Justin Verlander might be a Yankee. Just the sad reality of the most precious sport under the sun. I’m still crying ocer the HOJO trade so many moons ago. May God bless MIke Maroth, a truly outstanding gentleman.

Very sad news, at least for me. It couldn’t be put any better David Tiger. My feelings exactly. Loyalty is just a sentimental luxury. It gets tougher and tougher to remain loyal to this game. Maroth was the one player I did not want to see traded. Wasn’t about his stuff, but his character. Anybody else think the team will miss it? Seems they could have used him in long relief. If he was marketable, a player to be named doesn’t seem like much in return. Another “trade” that was more of an expedient paring of a pitching glut. Anyway I’ve had my say here…whado I know? Thanks Mike for toiling through the lean years. I wish you and your family well and hope you find success with the Cardinals. Looks like you can handle the bat, so the National League will be a good fit.

Oh yes, And God bless you.

VERY SORRY to see Maroth go. As much as I appreciate the talent of Andrew Miller, it might be a little early to go this far and put him into the starting five. After all, no one has really seen him pitch much yet, and scouts have a way of changing things in a month or so. Even JL admits he is a work in progress, and a team as talented as this doesn’t need a starter in that category if we have a proven major leaguer available. Furthermore, I think the Braves brass are right thinking Maroth will improve the longer out from surgery. Lastly, chemistry goes a long way in the clubhouse, and there was no better man in that room than Mike Maroth. I can see getting rid of Ledezma, but Maroth? Hmm… that’s another story. What are we getting for him? It must be the next Hank Aaron.. ok, in Double A ball at the least. Best of luck Mike! I will miss your contribution!
