Sunday wrapup

Bobby Seay’s first major league save came in his 90th big-league appearance, six years after his debut. Yet while he has the game ball and it’s something he’ll cherish, he didn’t want to rank the appearance above all the others he has had this year.

"No, I don’t think so, not in my opinion," he said. "I mean, it’s obviously big for me to get my first save, good to help the team win. But I don’t think it’s the biggest. I think coming in and holding some of those games earlier this year are bigger to me. Even when I pitched in Baltimore and had to come in and soak up some innings, we ended up coming back to win, and I think that was probably bigger, in my opinion."

Seay didn’t even know this qualified as a save situation until Chad Durbin told him after the game.
Leyland gave two reasons for turning to Seay with two outs in the ninth. First, he wanted the lefty-on-lefty situation with power threat Chris Duncan up. Second, he didn’t want to overextend Fernando Rodney after he pitched Saturday night. Had Seay not retired Duncan, Leyland said, Todd Jones would’ve entered to face Yadier Molina.

They were some good games this weekend and the pitching was pretty good with a couple of obvious exceptions.

But what I wanted to say here or find out, is how people feel about interleague play. Actually I kinda like it, but what I don’t like is the fact that it is not equitable within divisions. I feel that everyone in the AL central should play the same teams. So much of the season is made to be perfectly equal, why not this. It would be a shame if a division was decided on the interlegue play??

For example in our division

Detroit plays 2 teams that are currently below .500, 1 that is 500 and 3 that are above 500

Cleveland plays 4 teams that are below 500, 1 that is 500 and 1 team above 500

White Soxs play 5 teams that are currently below 500 and one team that is 500 and no teams that have a record above 500

Twins play 2 teams with belove 500 records and 4 with above 500 records.

Kansas City playes 4 teams with below 500 records 1 that is 500 and 1 with an above 500 record.

This is not fair. If the rest of the season is equal why not this??

Well since you asked……

I HATE it. There are too many interleague games. It eats up the entire month of June, which is a prime baseball month for developing pennant races. GK, you already pointed out the problem with equal scheduling. I’d much rather have another round with Baltimore, New York, or Boston than to play Milwaukee or Washington (although I have tickets to the latter). I don’t care if the Cardinals show up with Stan Musial in the lineup, I’d rather stay within league. Anyone remember, before interleague play, how intriguing the World Series matchups could be?

This is a gimmick idea that is no longer necessary to create fan interest. At the very least, the number of games should be cut by 50% to 75%.

Bud Selig and MLB needs to realize that this is not the NFL or the NBA and quit promoting it in the same manner.

Like I said, you asked. :-) End of rant.

Agreed—big time.

Let’s start a petition.
