Guillen sits until Friday

Carlos Guillen isn’t in tonight’s lineup, and he isn’t expected to be in there on Wednesday either. Manager Jim Leyland wants to give him three days off (including the off-day Thursday) to rest his shoulder, which supposedly felt tired after the game last night. Guillen is available to enter the game in the later innings.

The full lineup:

  1. Rodriguez, C
  2. Polanco, 2B
  3. Sheffield, DH
  4. Ordonez, RF
  5. Monroe, LF
  6. Thames, 1B
  7. Inge, 3B
  8. Infante, CF
  9. Perez, SS

He sure was Jason. Good call. This team is getting more and more fun to watch. Shef is crushing the ball right now, with no hits to show for it tonight. The Tigers seemingly have learned to be patient at the plate and it’s paying off. Maybe they’re following Shef’s lead. Polanco will win the AL batting title. Casey comes through. I see some of you are a bit down on him right now, but you could almost feel that hit coming. The Nefster made a nice throw to the plate tonight, arguably a game winner. And he got his licks in. Ordonez ‘s defense seems to improve with his hot hitting. Monroe continues to get the clutch hit/homerun. Seay is really helping the team right now and should be getting lots of credit for this victory.(He almost won it) Zumaya seems to be back in control, and Jones continues to save ugly, although a one run lead would have meant a blown save. Yikes! Jamie Walker has a great hair cut… What more could you ask for? I know it’s early, but me thinks we’re back in business.

Well. Well! WELL! I should cast doubt on Sean Casey more often, if that’s the result. Shut me right up, Big Case.

These last two games have been about as fun to watch as any in a real long time. Tonight’s was well played, well managed, and was about as riveting as baseball can get.

The list of winners tonight is long. Polanco with his four hits. Casey with his clutch pinch single. Seay with his shut down performance. The “return” of Zumaya. Monroe and Pudge with bombs. And don’t look now, but ol’ Marcus is starting to pick and grin a little over there at firstbase. And has anybody noticed that Neifi Perez is doing a pretty solid job when he gets in? Not spectacular, but head and shoulders above what he brought to the table last season. And finally, Leyland had the perfect answer to every situation. Good stuff.

It appears to me that, when Rogers is activated, Bobby Seay is not the guy to send down. This is a situation where the situation calls for the situational lefty to be used in situations. So who to send down? Well, that’s a nice situation to be in.

Now let’s get the sweep and take this show on the road.

It seems we were writing about the same time Rich, and interestingly we seem to be on the same wavelength so to speak. Yes Thames is looking “most adequate” at first. And I forgot to give Pudge credit for that bomb he hit for a double, and then scoring the first run. He has been an offensive factor so far. Now if he’d just lay off those high fastballs he’d help himself a lot. Easier said than done.

Lookin’ better. Some random comments:
Glad we had a 2 run lead last night. Jones seems to have better numbers when given a a 2 run spread!

Nice to see Zumaya show signs of recovery. Getting that curve ball over is crucial.

At least Inge can get a bunt down.

Guillen’s problems with his throwing are in a small part mental as well as physical. He will get over it and be the excellent shortstop that the club needs…. this year anyway.

Vasquez is throwing well in Toledo. Miner is not.

Nice to see Thames picking up a few grounders and errant throws, but in order to be successful it is more important that his bat justifies the experiment.

I think Shelton’s days as a Tiger are numbered. I can see them moving Carlos there and grooming Larish.

Tejada has averaged 161.6 games played over the last 8 years.

We need to get Granderson going again.

Give Bobby Seay Bonderman’s next start…..Then bring in Bondo to start the 2nd!!!
