Late night at the winter meetings
Don’t count out the Tigers from making a bigger move just yet. One report making the rounds tonight has the Tigers as one of six teams involved in talks for Devil Rays center fielder and leadoff man Rocco Baldelli, but other Major League sources suggest the Tigers aren’t on the list. The Marlins are still expected to be the most aggressive in that sweepstakes, but the Devil Rays want/need young pitching, which gives the Tigers a position of strength. Given the mixed signals, though, it could be a case of the Devil Rays using the Tigers to force Florida to improve its offer.

Absolutely, just what we need. Another righthand batting outfielder. Another hitter with too many strikeouts and not enough walks, with the resulting low OBP. Yessir, let’s get this guy.
Seriously, if the Tigers are involved in this at all, it must be involving another player or another team. Otherwise it makes no sense.
And never (Joe Randa) acquire a hitter (Joe Randa) who’s made his success (Joe Randa) hitting on artifical surface (Joe Randa). Not to mention any names, of course.
