Roster moves

To make room for Alexis Gomez on the 40-man roster, the Tigers designated for assignment the contract of Nook Logan. Plus, the Tigers called up Tony Giarratano and placed him on their 15-day DL while he recovers from ACL surgery.

I know that the Tigers will probably bring Clevlin back up after the rosters expand, but I don’t get why they sent him down now and broght up Gomez instead. Clevlin did everything that was expected of him and more.

I think this was a vote of confidence for Granderson, and to a lesser degree, Ordonez. Leyland wants to get these two cogs turning. We’ll be fortunate if we get one of them turning.

I think Dan is absolutely right it was 100% about Grandersons confidence. It is a wonderful thing to do for a player and I think the world of Curtis but with our woeful offense lately I thought Clevlan coiuld be invaluable down the stretch. He’ll be back in September but I think he is now inelegible for the post-season. Is that true?

Well yes and no. I think he would be eligible because they have some flexiiblity with the Giarratano move. (Recalling him but putting him on the DL).
I think they can replace him with an otherwise ineligible callup.

But would they? Would Leyland use him if he is concerned about how Granderson responds?

JUST WHEN THE TIGERS SEEM TO BE GOING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION THEY STUMBLE.BRENT CLEVEN IS THE BEST OUTFIELDER THE TIGERS HAVE HAD IN YEARS AND WHEN WE NEEDED HIM THE MOST LEYLAND SENDS HIM DOWN. AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR LEYLAND STATED HE WOULD START THE 9 BEST MEN WE HAVE RATHER IT WAS A ESTABLISHED STARTER OR A ROOKIE.HE LIED-THE OTHER OUT FIELDERS CAN NOT COMPARE TO CLEVLEN AS AN ALL AROUND PLAYER.IF WE HAD HIM IN THE YANKEE SERIES WE PROBABLY WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE SERIES INSTEAD OF LOSING IT.ALSO WHEN WE PLAY TEAMS THAT HAVE SPEED AND GAP HITTING ABILITY WE SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE HIM AND GRANDERSEN OUT IN THE FIELD.I DON’T UNDERSTAND.WE SENT BIG RED DOWN WHEN HE SLIPPED ON HIS BATTING YET WE LET GRANDERSEN CONTINUE EVEN THOUGH HE HAD THE SECOND WORST BATTING AVERAGE IN ALL OF THE MAJORS.WITHOUT CLEVLEN TO HELP IN HITTING AND POSITION PLAY I FEAR THE TIGERS WILL NOT GET DEEP IN POST SEASON
