Perez leading off

Granderson’s sitting against the left-hander Buehrle, and Pudge is hitting third with Dmitri out. That didn’t leave a lot of options, so Leyland is giving Neifi a try. In case you’re wondering, he has 1,071 career at-bats in the leadoff spot, second-most of any spot in his career. He’s only hit second more.

Also, Mike Maroth said he still felt some tenderness in his elbow during his bullpen session today, but not nearly as noticeable as it was Saturday. He’s still on track to make another rehab start Friday for the Hens.

That’s different. Perez is a prototypical #2 man. He can bunt, hit and run, slap the pitch to right and doesn’t strike out much. As a leadoff hitter you want a guy to be able to get his butt on base-this guy rarely walks and is not a base stealing threat.
I would like to see Leyland give Guillen a chance to leadoff. I think he would be vry effective there. He is without question the club’s best base runner and can draw a walk to get things going.

I may have spouted off about this too many times now for everyone’s liking but this is one of the most critical spots in the batting order. To slide through to a championship without a real lead-off hitter will be a real challenge.

Indulge me here folks:

Guillen

Perez

Pudge

C-Mo

Ordonez

Casey

Thames

Inge

Clevlen

Decent lineup Dan but I can not see Leyland batting Ordonez anywhere but 4th. I think he would move Guillen around before he moves Ordonez. Monroe has been on fire enough to see why you would want him hitting 4th.

I like the lineup okay. This is against lefthanded starters, right? You’d have a different situation against righties. I agree that Guillen seems well suited to lead off, but I also think he’s valuable in a spot where he can drive in runs with extra base hits. Kind of a toss up. Well, I’m sure the future will include a true leadoff hitter. I don’t think free agents will be running away from Detroit anymore.

How about Kenny Rogers tonight? Second half slump my eye. These two games have been huge, I don’t care what good buddy JL says.

Yeah. against Righties:

Guillen

Perez

Young

Monroe

Ordonez

Casey

Rodriguez

Granderson

Inge

We still need a couple of big RBI guys in the middle of this lineup.

I truly thing that Granderson could become the consumate third hitter. Not this year, obvioulsy, but soon.

The core of this team, is reminding me of ’84, where players from our system grew up together, and did well.

If a couple of our hitters(Maybin, Granderson, Shelton, Clevlen)grow up to be REAL major league run producers(in the mold of an Ortiz or Hafner), combined with our young pitchers…………..look out!! We’ll be contenders for the next decade.

Neifi Perez is an automatic out. He never walks, he has no power, he hits under 250, he hardly ever takes a pitch. He doesn’t strike out because he rarely gets to strike two. He isn’t any better than Omar defensively. HE CANNOT PLAY BASEBALL. Omar should be playing and Perez should play only if one of the baseball players among the infielders is injured or needs to rest.
