I find it interesting that the outlets like ESPN and other sports news outlets are currently billing the AL Central as a three team race, despite that fact that yesterday afternoon the Tigers had an 8.5 game lead over both teams. I don’t believe the Tigers will be getting the respect they deserve unless they make it to the playoffs, and at they point they will still be considered underdogs even if they still have the best record at that point.
What is your take on the lack of attention toward Verlander vs the attention that Liriano gets, especially since Verlander is on the better team. How would you compare Liriano and Verlander?
On July 29, 2003, the Royals were up 6 1/2 games on the third-place Twins. They finished the season seven games back of the Twins in the standings. I’m not saying the Tigers are like the 2003 Royals, but mathematically, 8 1/2 games at this point is not indelible. Unless you’re willing to declare the Tigers AL Central champs, you don’t get the right to say they don’t get respect from ESPN’s standings.
I can’t believe ESPN and others have ignored the incredible performance of Miner against Liriano. All SportsCenter wanted to talk about were Liriano’s 12 K’s(hardly a newsflash, the Tigers lead the league in strikeouts), and completely bypassed how Miner stepped up and shut down the Twins.
While not possessing a sexy 100 mph fastball, Miner has done quite a job in replacing Maroth. In fact, it could be argued that he has done better than Maroth might have(I love the way Maroth pitches, just stating an opinion).
The question is…………….what to do when Maroth comes all the way back.
Just a thought, take Rogers out of the rotation? Maybe…………..
