Rotation change
The other shoe fell with news of Mike Maroth’s injury. Zach Miner will start Sunday instead of Roman Colon, who will work out of the bullpen from now on. Leyland wouldn’t commit to Miner beyond a couple starts, but if someone else gets a shot, it looks like the next guy would come from the Minors.
Also, Chris Shelton has this game off after struggling the last few games. Carlos Guillen is starting at first base.
Maroth update
Mike Maroth will undergo surgery tomorrow to remove bone chips from his left elbow. The Tigers aren’t saying anything about a timetable until the surgery is performed. Carl Pavano just had similar surgery, and he’s expected to be out until late summer. Scott Schoeneweis had it two years ago and was back in a month and a half. Suffice it to say, though, the Tigers are now going to have to look at filling Maroth’s spot for the long term rather than just a couple starts, whether that means a longer look at Roman Colon or someone else from Toledo.
