Driving to the ballpark this afternoon, I heard Jim Rome on the radio dusting off the 120-loss watch for the Pirates, Marlins and Royals. I don’t listen to Rome very often, but it was the first time I’d heard him bring up the ’62 Mets since the Tigers were threatening them back in 2003, and that was a favorite topic for him back then. It’s just sounds different to hear some other team associated with the ’62 Mets now, having gone through that already. Granted, it’s still early, but the Royals could fall a little off this pace and still topple that standard. I think the Pirates have too much talent to come close to that mark, and I want to believe the Marlins do, too.
