Tigers release Pena

The Tigers released Carlos Pena this morning. They’ll owe him 45 days pay, meaning $700,000 of his $2.8 million salary. Details to follow.

First off, what a flop Pena has been. On a better note, I have never seen Granderson play, though have heard he is the second coming. If you had to compare his game to anyone’s, who would it be? Lastly, is this guy really for real? What would you predict his stats for the season?

I am sincerely sorry that the Tigers were unable to sell Pena, but I am glad Pena is gone. Pena could hit the ball a mile. He could hit a lot of home runs. However, Pena often times looked like he had no idea what was going on at the plate. Many times Pena would try to draw a walk, but either watch strike three or swing through ball four. Maybe Pena can still have an all-star season with another club; he has that kind of potential. He was not all there (in the mind) with the Tigers. They gave him every chance possible without screwing the other players (ie. Trammel screwing Thames out of a spot and giving Higginson a chance when his career had clearly gone down the drain). The team and pena BOTH needed to move on. I think this will benefit both parties in the long run.

It’s too bad that we couldn’t get anything for him, but I think all we would’ve picked up in return was another team’s failed project who would’ve benefitted from the proverbial ‘change of scenery’.

It’s also too bad that after breaking the news to him, Leyland didn’t say, “Carlos, on your way out, could you tell German that I’d like to see him?”

Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye!

It seems like we’ve come to a point where if you’re not going to produce or don’t appear to know what you’re doing, you’re not going to be here. I like that!

I kind of expected it as did Pena himself. Hearing Leyland speak all spring about making adjustments as you grow in the big leagues, it was one thing Carlos could not do. Will they miss a left handed bat or will this open the door for some other left handed bat? The others that come to mind now are Gomez or Kelly. I suppose it could be Kelly. Then again it may just eliminate the choice between Logon and Thames. Either way I’m looking for an increase in production from all the front line players. Most look ready except Carlos Guillen and I sure hope he is okay.

So many Come and Go..Pina
Higgy Etc…No way at this level of play can you only have one or two good seasons.

I also believe it takes a lot of heart and guts.No one steps up to the plate wanting to strike out.Good luck to the players that tried.
