Dmitri leaves game
Dmitri Young made his first start at third base Saturday against Italy, but he limped off in the bottom of the first inning with an apparent leg injury. He was running to first base on a foul ball to right, pulled up about two-thirds of the way down the line, and immediately limped to the dugout. He didn’t need help getting back to the clubhouse, but he was moving slowly. We’ll see how bad it is when we get an update.

Imagine if he weren’t so injury prone!
There’s no other place on the website to say this:
Please dump the cheesy “Who’s Your Tiger?” wallpaper on the site. It’s wrong on a number of different levels:
- It suggests that the team’s prospects are so bad that you can only get excited about individual players. This isn’t true, at least this year.
- It appears to be leading you to make a choice of one Tiger over another, when in fact, they are all on our team and should be cheered for equally.
- It encourages a knee-jerk, non-thinking emotionalism that resembles too much an unquestioning right-wing post-9/11 patriotism. You know, “Don’t think, it’s too dangerous. Just feel, and feel what we tell you to feel.”
- Finaly, it suggests we’re not sophisticated enough as fans to think about and regard the team on an intellectual basis — as though we need to be led to feel contrived emotions. This is not unlike when they play the Car Wash clap at the ballpark, or the “Charge” theme at the ballpark. It’s downright pavlovian.
Please dump it.
Actually, that’s not my idea. I just write. I don’t design the site. Part of the reason I like doing this blog is so I can branch out away from the site.
Hey Jason:
I understand compeltely that the “Who’s Your Tiger” thing is not your deal, but this is the only forum I can find to provide this kind of feedback. MLB is notoriously closed to suggestions or commentary from the outside.
If there’s another way for me to provide this kind of input, please let me know and I will go that route.
Beyond that, don’t worry — I won’t be going crazy peppering this blog with non-related issues like this.
Thanks.
Chuck
